Down on the Farm: June 6 (Allen & Paddack Solid While TinCaps Are No-Hit)

The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 4-1 on Wednesday. Tri-City’s first game is on Friday.

Here is a recap of the day’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (29-31) Won 3-2

Seth Simmons tossed his second consecutive quality start since arriving in El Paso. The only runs he allowed came on a two-run home run to Russell Herrera in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Chihuahuas offense was buoyed by two solo home runs from Allen Craig(7th) and Luis Urias(6th). After Carlos Asuaje tripled to lead off the 4th inning, Allen Craig drove him in with a Sac Fly to center.

San Antonio Missions (37-21) Won 10-0

The Missions scored one run through five innings and then erupted for eight runs throughout the sixth, seventh and eighth. 2017 draft pick (32nd round) Matthew Batten had a break out game in his fourth appearance for San Antonio and the top three hitters in the lineup each recorded multiple hits. Logan Allen didn’t allow a run for the second outing in a row, lasting seven innings each time out. Allen lowered his ERA to 2.93 in 73.2 innings on the year, he’s struck out 80 batters and owns a 1.17 WHIP.

Lake Elsinore Storm (30-29) Won 4-3

After two somewhat rough outings, Chris Paddack bounced back to provide the storm with his third 10-strikeout performance on the season. Paddack now owns a 1.93 ERA on the season. The offense couldn’t scratch a run across until the seventh inning when Chris Baker(1st) hit a two-run home run. Elliot Ashbeck pitched the bottom of the eighth and allowed two runs on four singles to tie the game. Both teams scored a run in the 10th. Buddy Reed scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 11th.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (26-31) Lost 7-0

The TinCaps had a rough night at the plate as they were no-hit by two South Bend Cubs. It must have not been their night as Nick Margevicius took a step back on the mound after a string of very good starts. Only three batters reached base for Fort Wayne. Luis Almanzar was put on with a fielding error in the third inning by the Cubs third baseman. The TinCaps walked twice in the seventh but couldn’t do anything else, as opposing starter Rollie Racy struck out the side in his last inning of work.

DSL Padres (2-2) Won 4-0

The DSL Padres beat the DSL Reds 4-0 behind great pitching performances from three hurlers. Mauricio Rodriguez, Jesus Cisneros and Effrain Contreras teamed up for the one hit shutout. Luis Tejada had the only hit on the day for the Reds.
