On Wednesday, Club Tijuana officially announced the signing of 25-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Jose Ignacio Rivero from Argentine club Defensa y Justicia.

The deal is a six-month loan that expires at the end of the Liga MX Clausura 2017 tournament with an option to buy the player for eight hundred thousand dollars.

Rivero started his professional career in his native Uruguay with Central Espanol in 2012.

He stayed with the club until making the move to Argentina with Defensa y Justicia in 2015.

He has since been a consistent player with the Argentinian team and seems to be a player that can slide into the Xoloitzcuintles’ midfield.

Rivero’s best trait is his versatility as he can play as a fullback, central midfielder, defensive midfielder, and winger.

The Xolos’ current biggest needs are in the midfield, but some injuries or inconsistent performances could see Rivero playing in several different positions.

Club Tijuana’s first game of the Clausura 2018 will be this Saturday against Cruz Azul, and it is still unclear as to how Diego Cocca will set his team.
