Week 1 of the preseason was uneventful in the fact the San Diego Chargers left Tennessee without any major injury. Week 2 at home against the Arizona Cardinals was a totally different story as the Bolts lost two members of the team to season ending injuries.

Donovan Clark was injured as he was rolled up onto after a play ended. The result is a torn ACL and the rookie seventh-round pick will put on I.R, and miss the entire 2016 season. A very tough blow for this young man who was expected to get a ton of playing time on the line.

Jeff Cumberland was also injured as he blew out his Achilles on Friday night. The tight end was going to be used heavily by the Chargers this season as an understudy to Antonio Gates. Now rookie Hunter Henry will have to step up. Luckily for the Chargers, Henry has looked awesome early this camp and seems more than ready for the challenge of extra reps.

The Chargers will probably kick the tires on a potential new lineman and they may also look for a veteran tight end. Cumberland was going to help mentor Henry and now that he is lost for the year, the club might look for someone. Not that Henry can’t handle the load but in the NFL you need all the depth you can get.

Tom Telesco was very high on Clark and rightfully so. He looked to be a key backup for the team. Louis Vazquez is still out there and looking for a job. Perhaps the Bolts bring him in for a look? The team does need to provide more depth on the line as that is one of the big keys to the season. Keeping Philip Rivers upright and unharmed is a goal for the team. Having a healthy line is no guarantee. The NFL is rough and lineman go down all the time. The Chargers still have to make it through two more preseason games.
