Chargers News: Teurk, Henry and Bosa Oh My! *With Video
The San Diego Chargers shocked pretty much everyone when they selected Joey Bosa with the teams third pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The team had been linked to Deforrest Buckner, Jalen Ramsey, and Laremy Tunsil as possible selections. Most fans had no clue though Jalen Ramsey seemed to be the popular pick among the fans.
Foe some reason the talk of Joey Bosa to the Chargers was quiet. Not very many “experts” picked the Chargers to be suitors for him with the third pick. Everyone pretty much assumed they would draft an interior defensive or offensive lineman. That was not the case and according to the Chargers Bosa was who they wanted all along.
The 20-year-old is remarkably young for all that he has accomplished in his football life. The defensive standout will surely bring an intensity to the Chargers. Team him with Jason Verrett, Denzel Perryman, Melvin Ingram, Corey Liuget and Manti Te’o and the Chargers have a great young unit on defense. This Chargers team should be fun to watch with a brand new influx of rookies. Bosa will definitely energize the defense when he plays..
In the end the selection of Bosa is growing on me. He has an unreal ceiling, but like all draft picks there is that possibility of failure. The Chargers will do all they can to develop this young man. Looking at his past performances and his attitude you can see why the team is very optimistic. Bosa could be a force on the outside and the Chargers really had trouble getting to the QB last season. Take a look at this video and you will see he has a relentless motor. He is not blessed with the best speed but his will and effort make up for that. Hopefully that effort will translate in a much tougher league against way better talent. Chargers fans will just have to wait and see.
Going into the offseason the San Diego Chargers knew they had an issue with their tight ends. Both Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green were unrestricted free agents. The team chose to re-sign Gates, but they lost Green to the Steelers. In losing the 25-year-old Green, the team had no choice but to use a draft pick on a tight end this draft.
The team luckily enough landed the nations best collegiate tight end in Hunter Henry from the University of Arkansas. He is blessed with great speed and excellent hands and will have the privilege of learning from Antonio Gates, one of the best in the business. The Chargers took Henry with the 35th overall pick, but he has a great upside and now the team has a tight end of the future once Gates retires. Excellent pick by the Bolts.
Take a look at this video and notice how much of a burst he has out of the backfield. He will bring an exciting element to the offense and you can be sure that Philip Rivers will enjoy utilizing his new toy. Expect Hunter to be eased into action but if excels with his learning, he could be an important part of the offense in 2016. Very exciting times for Chargers fans as the team looks to rebound from a horrible 2015 season.
The third round selection was center Max Teurk from USC. Another quality selection addressing one of the teams many needs. The team lacked a true center last season and now pressure can be eased from the unit. Teurk has the ability to come in and start right away if he shows that he is ready. That is exciting for Chargers fans.
The versatile center has the ability to play four positions on the line but the Chargers will surely have him focus at center. He has a mean streak to him and that is something that you want from your center. Teurk could be a great value pick for the team. All in all the Chargers have done well with their selections. Bosa provides a potential immediate young superstar while both Teurk and Henry address needs on the team. Let’s see what the next few picks are. You would have to figure the team will address the interior defensive line and safety positions. But who really knows. Stay tuned Chargers fans, we will keep you up to date on all things Chargers here at EVT. Go BOLTS!!!
