Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 55 with Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus

For this episode, we welcome Craig Goldstein back to the show.

The minor league editor for Baseball Prospectus has vast knowledge about the Padres’ minor league system, so we welcome his insight.

Let me warn you that Craig is brutally honest and he is not affiliated with the team in any way. He gives his opinion and he does not pull any punches in doing so.

We speak about Fernando Tatis Jr, who Craig loves very much. He sees the ability in this young man, and of all the prospects on the Padres, he views him as the most exciting one to watch. We can’t argue that fact, as the 18-year-old has taken off this season in Fort Wayne.

Michel Baez and his amazing journey was discussed by the three of us. Craig has some very interesting things to say about this young man.

We then spoke about Cal Quantrill, Eric Lauer, and Joey Lucchesi. The trio is in Double-A and we get Craig’s thoughts on each hurler.

Dinelson Lamet has been impressive in his brief major league stint. We speak about this right-hander and talk about his future. Is he a bullpen piece or a member of the rotation in the long run?

Esteury Ruiz and the trade with the Royals was something we hit on with Craig. He is very high on Ruiz and agrees that he is an excellent prospect. The young infielder has torn up the AZL and looks to be a fast-riser in the system.

All in all, this was a great show. Craig has a ton of knowledge and its great to get an outsider’s perspective on the development of this franchise.
